The Rise of Cancel Culture and How It Relates to 1984

With cancel culture on the rise and political correctness at an all time high, America is seeming more and more like the dystopia that George Orwell envisioned in 1984.
The Rise of Cancel Culture and How It Relates to 1984

Cancel culture is a toxic cesspool. It hurts people who have worked so hard to get to where they are, and yet it does absolutely nothing to make anyone's life better. The left loves to use this tactic in order to silence the opposition, and with the prevalence of social media, it's now easier than ever to completely destroy someone's life and get the rest of the leftists on the internet to help you.

For the ones who don't know what cancel culture is, cancel culture in summary is like this: I don't care who you are or what your personal life is like, but this thing that you did/said made me very offended and therefore I will now "cancel" you. To the left, it doesn't matter how long ago the specific "offensive" act was made; if it was done, then you're cancelled, even if it was 8 years ago.

"Cancel Domino's"

On November 9th 2012, current White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany wrote this tweet, which was then subsequently replied at by Domino's:

2012. That's almost 8 years ago, before she even had any ties with President Trump. The tweet does not truly attack anyone or anything, I can't even imagine how you could warp a tweet about Domino's into something offensive. But Rick Wilson sure can:

I don't even need to explain myself. Wilson here just tried to cancel Domino's over an 8 year old tweet... can the left get anymore desperate? If this tweet had happened yesterday, it still would be extremely childish and insane to cancel Domino's out of such an insignificant tweet, but Wilson had to dig through 8 years of tweets in order to find this, which makes the situation that more hilarious, and really establishes how much of a joke the left really is.

Political Correctness = Newspeak

In 1984, Newspeak is a heavily controlled language of simplified grammar and limited vocabulary invented by the totalitarian state in order to limit the freedom of speech and thought. Using this new language, one could not even begin to comprehend or speak of criticisms about the government. Political correctness is the stepping stone towards that dystopian language; but Newspeak has something that political correctness does not: actual rules, standards and dictionary. Political correctness is a loosely defined broad term that's applied to anything that the special snowflake leftists can think of. Retard? That's banned. Negro? Sorry, Spanish speakers, you're racist. You know what, let's ban the word manual too, since it has the word "man" in it.

The left wants to limit our constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression, and they want to replace our language with more a "gender-neutral" and "safe" alternative.

Cancel Culture = Reporting Thoughtcrimes

Thoughtcrime is defined as beliefs and thoughts that are unorthodox and suggests any sort of criticism of the totalitarian state of Oceania. Criticizing Newspeak, or condemning Big Brother, or not following the tenets of IngSoc (English Socialism), are considered thoughtcrimes, and is punishable by death. Children in the book are raised to idolize Big Brother and be fiercely indebted to the State, and they won't hesitate once to report thoughtcrimes to the police, even if they're turning in their parents and loved ones. If you've been on Twitter or any sort of social media within the last few months, this scenario will seem very familiar, as cancel culture is the exact same thing as reporting thoughtcrimes. As stated before in another article, the left despises ideology diversity, so if anyone doesn't follow the tenets of the socialist left, they had better be prepared for the storm of hate from the left's brainwashed children. They will stop at nothing to completely boycott everything that you have a relation to, and completely erase you from the face of the earth in the process.

How to Retaliate Against Cancel Culture

Let's say that you're a currently in the middle of being cancelled, how can you defend yourself? Well Domino's sure had the right idea:

You must not give in the left's insults. Do not cave in. The left has no facts nor evidence to support anything that they say. You must defend yourself and stand your ground because there's absolutely no good reason as to why you're being cancelled, the left merely does this because they believe they're righteous and they're simply wiping off scum off the street. Don't post that black square on Instagram, don't sign those useless petitions; even if you think it will appease the mob, the mob will never become appeased. It's the definition of a mob. You don't have to prove to anyone that you're not a racist.

You might be tempted to cave in and do what the left wants you to do because it seems simple enough and inconsequential, but as a true conservative, don't do it. Stand your ground, and keep being the good person that you know you are. You don't have to prove a goddamn thing. In 1984, Wilson tries to not cave in to the totalitarian regime, and holds firm to the end until they exploit his greatest fear. Luckily for us the left currently has not found a way to find our deepest greatest fear and use it against us, so we have absolutely no excuse to give the left what it wants.
